The Perks of Downtown Chicago Real Estate: Living in East Village

in Neighborhood Spotlight

One of the trendiest neighborhoods in Chicago is West Town, an area of downtown Chicago real estate that includes the smaller enclaves of Bucktown, Wicker Park, Ukrainian Village, East Village, Noble Square, Smith Park and River West. Overall, the West Town area is known as urban, hip and trendy– generally, it’s on the cutting edge of what’s cool in music, food and culture. Beyond a trendy feel, moderate prices on Chicago real estate investments that are predicted to appreciate are a draw of West Town.

In particular, the neighborhood of East Village, a contraction for East Ukrainian Village which is actually just west of downtown Chicago real estate, is becoming a residential downtown neighborhood known for strong family ties and a true community feel. The borders are Chicago Avenue on the north, Grand Avenue on the south, Western on the east and Washtenaw on the west. The small urban enclave is becoming an increasingly trendy place for young adults to invest and for young families to join a community of other families.

Our agent Richard Anselmo is one the happy residents of the East Village community. The real estate in East Village consists mainly of residential blocks reconstituted for new construction. Anselmo also states that, despite all the new homes, “The 2 1/2-story worker cottage is the hallmark of the neighborhood.”

Much of the older buildings have been preserved, since several blocks have been designated as Chicago landmarks– working class streetscapes define the area and will continue to in the historic district. As the demand for new construction in the neighborhood increases, residents and local government are working together to ensure that the neighborhood doesn’t lose its historical character.

Here are some of the things he and other residents of the downtown Chicago neighborhood love:
  • A wide array of businesses in the area. Authentic Mexican joints, hip coffee shops, retail shops and nearly 20 bars make the neighborhood a full-fledged destination for shoppers and diners. For more businesses in the area, check out the list of East Village Association Business Members.
  • The feeling of being part of a growing and developing neighborhood. If you want to join a community where you can contribute, this might be the place for you to invest.
  • An active neighborhood association, working to preserve the character of the area, promote its business and advocate for its interests. The East Village Association can be found online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
