This weekend is, of course, one of the holidays most anticipated by owners of Chicago real estate: St. Patrick’s Day! Okay, well, St. Patty’s isn’t actually until the 17th, but our city will be celebrating on Saturday, March 13th. Besides wearing green, having a Guinness, and saying “Kiss me, I’m Chi-rish,” what should be occupying your time this weekend if you live in a Chicago condo or home? Here are some ideas.
Events
We’ll start with something traditional: the Dyeing of the Chicago River. Go see the boats dump in the dye and take part in the Chicago tradition on Saturday at 10:45am. You can watch from the Michigan Avenue bridge, the Columbus Drive bridge and upper or lower Wacker Drive between Columbus Drive and Michigan Avenue.
If you feel like learning a little something while you celebrate St. Patty’s, try a historical pub crawl. For $20-$25, you can learn about the Irish history of Chicago, the gangster tradition of our city, or the saloons of Southport Avenue. Tours by trolley start at the Chicago History Museum, and destinations of the pub crawl are revealed along the way!
If you are feeling like something a little more highbrow on this debaucherous holiday weekend, consider taking part in a growing trend in the Chicago Art scene – the apartment gallery. One such gallery has an exhibit opening this Saturday. See a large-scale collaboration between artists Jesse Butcher and Corkey Sinks at Concertina Gallery on Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square.
Restaurants
Opened just last weekend in River North is the newest location of Orange, a contemporary brunch chain. From their signature “frushi” – fruit rolled sushi-style with juice-infused rice – to jelly doughnut pancakes, it’s all fresh and creative fine-dining at this BYOB eatery.
Opening Friday at North and Ashland, Club Blujazz will offer two sets of live jazz every night of the week. Owned by two local jazz musicians, Greg Pasenko and his wife Diane Delin, we’re sure the music will suit jazz lovers and neophytes alike!
Club Blujazz in Chicago is a new venue for food, drinks and live entertainment for owners of Chicago real estate.
Chen’s Chinese and Sushi, a Wrigleyville staple, celebrates its 16th anniversary this weekend as well. Eat in the restaurant this weekend and get a $20 gift certificate to come back another time!
Movies
This weekend, if you loved the Bourne series, Matt Damon stars in another military action-thriller, Green Zone. Based on a literary expose of the same name, the movie explores the aftermath of the conflict in Iraq.
For lovers of Twilight or Lost, check out Remember Me this weekend, featuring stars of both pop culture phenomena. Robert Pattinson of Twilight and Emilie De Ravin of Lost appear in the emotional romantic drama.
