Sometime between Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day, there is a bit of a winter lull in activity. But this winter, which most people are saying is pretty mild for Chicago, the city offers just as many and varied activities and events as it does in the middle of summer! So if you’re a Chicago real estate owner, here are some of the great, fun and random things you can do in Chicago this weekend, February 26th through the 28th.
Events
Dog lovers of Chicago, come together Saturday and Sunday for the 2010 International Kennel Club Cluster of Dog Shows in McCormick Place. Tickets are $17 for adults and children under 12 attend free. There will be the shows, of course, but you can also see dog-related vendors, educational seminars, performance events and canine demonstrations. And if that’s not enough, this puppy dog face should convince you:
For theater lovers, this weekend you can see the directorial debut of Oscar-winning actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman as he directs the world premiere of Brett C. Leonard’s play The Long Red Road at the Goodman Theater. The play chronicles a man whose hard drinking does little to quell the devastating memories of a haunting past.
Contribute support the Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago by cheering on the folks taking part in the Hustle Up The Hancock. The annual stair-climbing event allows more than 4,000 people to raise money for the association as they attempt to climb either 52 or all 94 floors of the Hancock Tower on Sunday!
Restaurants
Try new Irish pub Beckett’s Public House in anticipation of St. Patrick’s season! The owners of Wilde in Lakeview also combine their love of literature and good food and beer in this Lincoln Avenue location, which features a library nook with a fireplace, wood-paneled walls and a menu of American and Irish comfort food.
Chicago welcomes another neighborhood sandwich shop in the DePaul area in Second City Subs on Halsted. You’ll find subs on freshly baked breads and milkshakes. Great for a casual weekend lunch!
For slightly more sophisticated grub, check out Gilt Bar in River North for their grand opening on Friday. With a soft opening under their belt, you can be prepared for good service and good food including culinary delicacies like roasted bone marrow on toast with red-onion jam.
Movies
This weekend, you might want to indulge in the comedy Cop Out starring Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis. Although it might not be intellectually stimulating, it will definitely keep you laughing!
And the country is abuzz about romantic drama Dear John. Starring two up-and-coming stars Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried, it will kindle romantic feelings in you even long after Valentine’s Day.
So, even though this time of year it can seem like there’s not too much going on, Chicago still has a ton to offer. Whether you’re remembering a lovely Valentine’s Day or ready for a debauched St. Patrick’s, there’s something to suit your mood in the city this weekend!
