Chicago Real Estate to Invest In? Up-and-Coming Neighborhoods in Chicago

in Neighborhood Spotlight

In Chicago real estate, there are always neighborhoods on their way up. Since Chicago is a city of neighborhoods, you should always give the neighborhood you are buying in careful consideration. If you’re looking to make an investment that will appreciate, this is even more important, and our Chicago real estate agents are well aware of it.

Chicago Real Estate in Evanston and Hyde Park

Evanston, during the past three decades, has rejuvenated its downtown area by adding a movie theater, condo developments and a rebuilt “L” stop. According to Timeout Chicago, Hyde Park may follow suit to bring appeal to its own Chicago real estate.

Being almost a mirror image of Evanston on the south side of the city– beautiful lakefront properties anchored by a university campus– along with the cachet of being home to our nation’s President, Hyde Park seems primed for a renaissance. And developers claim all of the features that made Evanston’s condos developments successful are present in Hyde Park as well. The Shoreland, a one-time hotel converted into University of Chicago dorms, awaits zoning approval to be redeveloped into luxury apartments, which could offer renters a viable option in the area in the future.

Hyde Park also has the benefit of the university’s world class medical center. It has a thriving art scene rooted in the famous Hyde Park Art Center, which hosts a variety of politically and socially aware exhibits as well as fun monthly events like Cocktails and Clay. And with the sixth-lowest number of violent crimes out of Chicago’s 25 police districts in 2008, it’s ready to shake its bad rap. We think a recovering real estate market in Chicago and more Obama-driven interest in this area will make in a hot neighborhood in years to come.

Chicago Real Estate in Avondale

Meanwhile, the guys over at Yo Chicago are reporting that Chicago real estate in Avondale will see a surge in the next few years. The Northwest Chicago neighborhood was once a blue collar suburb of German, Polish and Scandinavian immigrants and still retains a lot of those cultural influences.

Now, the neighborhood is gaining attention. The RedEye and Maurice Ortiz, marketing director at Apartment People, are both saying that it’s Chicago’s next hot hood– “How long before it becomes another Bucktown, Wicker Park? I would definitely say in a couple of years,” Ortiz stated. Located just to the north of hip ‘hood Logan Square, it does seem primed to be the next destination for those looking for alternatives to the lakefront neighborhoods of Lincoln Park and Lakeview.

Chicago Real Estate in Evergreen Park

For those looking for a suburban home, consider southwestern suburb Evergreen Park. According to a recent Chicago Tribune article, it has a welcoming “spirit of cooperation and compassion” among its citizens. Meanwhile, the Public Works department also pleases local residents, “keeping snowy side streets well-plowed, free blue recycling bags at the village hall and relatively inexpensive water, sewer and garbage pick-up.”

An easy commute also makes it an ideal suburb for those who work in downtown Chicago. If you are looking to put down roots in the community of an up-and-coming suburb rather than making in investment in an urban Chicago neighborhood, Evergreen Park is a great place to start looking.

With real estate agents knowledgeable about all the different neighborhoods and suburbs of Chicago, we can help you in your property search. But, as always, feel free to get started by taking a look at our listings on your own!
