Owners of New Condos in Chicago: Good News!

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the prices of new condos in Chicago are back to what sellers were asking in 2004: “Condo values in Chicago are back to their early 2004 levels, despite the fact that prices fell 8.5 percent in the 12 months that ended in October.” Chicago’s real estate market has been interesting to follow for the past few years, but with condo prices back to where they were in 2004, we are perhaps seeing some signals of increased stability in the urban real estate market.

Chicago is also faring better than most other urban condo markets: “Among the larger metropolitan areas, Chicago was the only market in which condos did not depreciate in value quicker than single-family homes.” And with the varied neighborhoods of Chicago, each with its own personality and flair, buying a condo can be as personal of a purchase as buying a single family home.
