Owners of Chicago condos have a great escape from the cold in the form of their own comfortable home. But why in the world would you want to stay at home all weekend?! Here are some great activities to do out and about in the many neighborhoods of Chicago.
Events
Downtown Chicago condo owners or Chicago jazz lovers might want to head over the Symphony Center to see “Kings of the Crescent City.” Summer’s jazz festival is still a long way off, but you can get a touch of New Orleans before Mardi Gras with this celebration of jazz music. Tickets are $20-$49.
For the braver Chicago residents and readers of this blog, maybe you want to take the annual Polar Plunge and test your will against frigid Lake Michigan? Or maybe you just want to watch. Either way, this event is special to Chicago and worth checking out this weekend!
The season opener double-header of one of Chicago’s favorite sports starts is this Saturday at UIC Pavilion. Which sport, you ask? Roller Derby! See what the Windy City Rollers are all about for just $20.
Restaurants
If you want a taste of New Orleans but don’t like the jazz that the Symphony Center is offering up, try new Hyde Park eatery The Big Easy. Complimentary cornbread and sweet-potato biscuits start a delicious Southern/Creole/Cajun meal that will get you in the mood for Mardi Gras next weekend!
If you are a Chicago condo owner up in Edgewater (maybe at our Clarovista development!), you should check out your new neighborhood coffee shop. Kitchen Sink Cafe serves coffee, tea, espresso and pastries from Bleeding Heart Bakery in Lakeview and other local bakers.
Another new breakfast spot for Chicago home owners is Bagel on Damen, which serves … bagels. On Damen! The Ukrainian Village bagel shop also serves gourmet breakfast and coffee sourced from Portland’s famed Stumptown Coffee Roasters.
Movies
In anticipation of Valentine’s Day, we suggest you veg out in front of one of these great romantic flicks.
When In Rome stars Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel. Laugh and enjoy the comedy which takes place, of course, in Italy!
Romantic drama Dear John comes from the writer of The Notebook and stars Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried. A soldier falls for a college student while at home on leave, but how will they be apart when he is redeployed?
And if you missed it last weekend, you might want to see Leap Year this weekend. Amy Adams chases her boyfriend to Ireland to propose to him on Leap Day but hits some complications (in the form of a handsome man) on the way.
Whatever activities you choose to get out of your Chicago home and out into the city, we hope you have a great, safe weekend!
