Owning a home in Chicago exposes you to a wonderful world of holiday events, even if it is chilly outside! Venture outside of your Chicago condo or home this weekend for these great reasons, no matter what the temperature is.
Events
Thursday welcomed the opening of the Chicago French Market in Ogilvie Transportation Center. The new European-style market will feature more than 20 independent vendors, selling everything from wine and cheese (Bien sûr!) to fresh produce and double-fried Belgian-style frites. Make sure to take some time this weekend to stop by the Metra station and check it out!
Feeling festive already? Don your Santa suit and head downtown on Saturday for SantaCon 2009, a pub crawl around downtown for holiday enthusiasts. Why? Because, according to the site, “nothing is more fun than being part of a hundred Santas ho-ho-ho-ing around the city, surprising tourists, kids, and bar patrons.”
Restaurants
If you live in or love Lakeview, swing by Jack’s this weekend. The 12-year-old American eatery got an interior design update and expanded their menu from two burger offerings to 7 new options!
See where Metromix is calling the best places to eat in 2009. Surely, one of the top 10 bars and restaurants in Chicago will suit you this weekend!
Movies
This weekend, check out Invictus starring Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman. It promises to be an inspiring tale about sports and apartheid in South Africa. Plus, who doesn’t love Morgan Freeman?
Brothers also premieres this weekend. Natalie Portman, Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire star in the emotional thriller about a veteran’s return from the war.
