1. Tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you get into real estate? Are you a native Chicagoan or a transplant?
I entered real estate 21 years ago because I “needed a job” and turned out to be very good at it. I was raised just southwest of Chicago in Frankfort, IL and moved to the city when I was 18.
2. What’s your favorite part of the workday (besides closing deals)? Listing a new property? Helping someone find the perfect home?
Helping a buyer to find that perfect place and helping my sellers sell their home so that they may move on to the next chapter of their life.
3. What neighborhood do you live in and why did you choose it? What are your favorite things about living there?
I live in Lincoln Park 2 blocks to the zoo and lake! I love it-a beautiful tree lined street with lots of kids and dogs! I walk my 2 girls (2 golden retrievers) around the zoo or on the lake every single day. The only way to start my day!
4. Describe your most memorable sale.
Oh my gosh, all of them. So many of my clients I now consider friends. My goal has always been to be able to walk down the street and never be uncomfortable running into my clients. I remember each and every client. I care about what is going on with them.
5. If you didn’t live in Chicago, where would you want to be? What kind of place would you have there?
Whitefish, Montana
It is one of the most beautiful places in the world-the scenery, the wildlife and outdoors. I would have the most cozy “western cabin” with a view of the mountains and a big porch.
6. What do you do when you are not taking the real estate market by storm? Share your favorite hobbies, activities, sports team, things to do in Chicago, etc.
I have 2 amazing golden retrievers and I love working out. I compete in triathlons and am a 3 time Ironman Finisher.
7. Do you have your own website, blog, Twitter account, Facebook, or other online presence? Tell us what you do on the web.
I have 2 websites-one local and one international. I am on LinkedIn and Facebook. As well as a few International Blogs and networking sites.
8. What kind of marketing techniques do you use for your clients, and what are your favorite online and offline/traditional Chicago real estate resources?
Web presence is the most important-Realtor.com, World Properties, Craigslist and my own websites. Networking, networking, networking….
9. What advice do you have for first time home buyers? What about buyers who are relocating to Chicago from a different part of the United States or even a different country?
Research and find a very professional, experienced, knowledgeable agent who you “gel” with and trust. It is an agent’s responsibility to know the market and the process and to manage issues before they happen. You need an agent to “find you a home”, not “taxi” you around. They need to listen to what you are saying and not saying to assist you in focusing on the appropriate properties and evaluating the various options available to find the appropriate fit for you.
10. What is the number one thing you’d want a prospective client to know about you?
It is not about “me”. It is about what is best for them. As for buyer’s – it is listening to determine what they “like”, not me.
11. Have you received any real estate awards or are you a member of any professional organizations?
I am consistently a top producer as well as hold various designations. I am a CRS, GRI, ABR and CIPS licensed to sell internationally. I am also the 2010 Chair for CIREC (Chicago International Real Estate Council), the 2010 FIABCI Chicago Council President (the International Real Estate Federation), and the 2008-2009 NAR President’s Liaison to Costa Rica.
