Jameson Realty Group:
19 VINTAGE CONDOMINIUMS UNDERWAY AT WINTHROP TERRACE IN MARGATE PARK

CHICAGO-Winthrop Terrace Condominiums, a development of 19 renovated vintage courtyard residences, is underway at 4936-4938 N. Winthrop in the quiet Margate Park neighborhood.

"The charming brick and stone building is landscaped and gated with wrought-iron fencing and features beautifully renovated simplex and duplex condominiums on a quiet residential street," said Jody Williams, vice president of marketing for Jameson Realty Group, the exclusive sales and marketing agent.

Charles Huzenis, president of Jameson Realty Group, said the Margate Park neighborhood is undergoing a metamorphosis as young singles, couples and families flock to the lakefront district.

Margate Park is just off Lake Shore Drive, between Montrose and Foster. Transportation to downtown is minutes away. The CTA Red Line provides three stops in at Argyle, Lawrence, and Wilson.

"Winthrop Terrace is only a short stroll from the amenities at the Chicago Park District's Margate Park field house at 4921 N. Marine," Williams said. "Residents also can enjoy all the lakefront amenities such as beaches and jogging, biking and walking paths."

"Condominium buyers at Winthrop Terrace may choose from a nice selection of affordable renovated units," Huzenis said.

Simplex choices in the building include five 1-bedroom-plus-den, 1-bath units and ten 2-bedroom, 1-bath layouts. Duplex choices include one 2-bedroom, 1½ bath residence and three 2-bedroom-plus-den, 2-bath layouts. Prices range from $195,900 to $299,900. Garden units range from $189,900 to $199,900.

Here are details on two popular layouts:

  • Unit E, a 2-bedroom, 1-bath residence, features a 16-by-11-foot living/dining room and 1-by 13-foot kitchen with an L-shaped work area which overlooks a 13-foot balcony. The 10-by-13-foot bedrooms share a full bath.
  • Unit 2W, a 2-bedroom-plus den duplex layout, features a 12-by-17-foot living room which adjoins a balcony. The U-shaped kitchen (8 by 11 feet), a full bath and 9¼-by-12¼-foot den complete the main level.

Steps lead up to two bedrooms. The 17-by-12-foot master bedroom is part of a suite with private full bath and a walk-in closet and secondary closet. A laundry center separates the master suite from the second bedroom, which measures 12¼ by 13½ feet.

The condominiums feature kitchens with 42-inch cabinets, granite counter tops, double-bowl undermount sinks with pull-out sprayer and G.E. stainless-steel appliances, including range, refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher and microwave.

Marble baths feature granite counters, maple vanity, Kohler tub and toilet. The residences also feature new wood decks, gas forced air heat and central air conditioning and storage lockers.

Margate Park is on the eastern edge of the Uptown neighborhood. The surrounding neighborhood has a large entertainment district centered at Broadway and Lawrence with venues like The Green Mill, one of the city's premiere jazz clubs, which also is known for its Sunday night poetry slams attracting hundreds of local bards.

Rock music concerts and live entertainment also can be viewed at the nearby Rivera Theatre and the Aragon Ballroom. Developers also are planning to restore the renowned Uptown Theater on Broadway north of Lawrence.

New retail development including a Borders Books and Music store now is open in the 4700 block of North Broadway.

Uptown also features a number of area restaurants: Agami Contemporary Sushi at 4712 N. Broadway, Alice & Friends Vegetarian Cafe at 5812 N. Broadway, Ba Mien at 4941 N. Broadway, Holiday Club at 4000 N. Sheridan, Kate's Kitchen at 1136 W. Wilson, and Magnolia Cafe at 1224 W. Wilson.
